Water Damage: How to Prevent

Published by 911 Restoration Washington DC on May 22, 2013 in category: Water Damage Restoration

The best way to help protect your home is to always be on the lookout for water damage. In fact, it is essential to routinely check all appliances and systems within the home that use water to look for leaks so that they do not grow in to larger problems and cause water damage or even mold which tends to occur if water damage if left linger.

One needs to check water intake and output areas off appliances such as washing machines, air conditioning units, toilets, showers, bathtubs, sinks and other areas within the home that have plumbing elements. This can be as simple as feeling the pipes to determine if water is leaking out and then inspect the areas below to see if any water damage has occurred.

There is one additional area of the home that is prone to leaking water and thus can impart water damage in the house; the roof. The roof needs to be routinely inspected and assessed to help make sure no loose shingles, torn areas, holes or rips are present and if so they need to be repaired quickly. The best way to prevent water damage and the potential mold issues that commonly arise is through being proactive in terms of making sure nothing is leaking any water as that is a surefire sign of a brooding problem that will only get worse unless corrected properly.
